Please expand the tabs below for more information on the services BSJAH offers.
BATHING

Routine bathing is essential for maintaining your pet’s beautiful coat as well as dirt removal and odor control. A bath includes a nail trim and an ear cleaning. If your pet has a skin disorder, medicated baths are available as recommended by the veterinarian. Anal gland expression as well as sanitary clips are also available. Bathing services are by appointment.

BEHAVIORIAL MEDICINE

Your pet’s behavior affects every interaction you have with him or her on a daily basis. Behavioral disorders can be caused by many different factors, including hormonal imbalances, metabolic diseases, and neurological conditions, to name just a few. The diagnosis of a behavioral disorder begins with a complete physical and history. If your pet has a behavioral issue, please call our office to schedule an evaluation.

DAY CARE

BSJAH offers day boarding Monday through Saturday during our business hours. All day boarders must be current on routine vaccinations.

DENTAL CARE

Despite what many pet owners may believe, doggie / kitty breath is not just a nuisance, it can be a sign of an unhealthy mouth. Bad breath is caused by bacteria, and over time, bacteria leads to plaque and tartar buildup on your pet’s teeth. Other signs of an unhealthy mouth can include red gums, drooling, discomfort while chewing, and loose or missing teeth. Dental disease can lead to other serious health problems such as heart disease and kidney disease. Dental hygiene is an important part of your pet’s health. Dental exams are performed as part of the yearly physical, semi-annual physical, or upon request. We offer professional dental cleanings as well as products for at home dental care.

HOSPICE AND EUTHANASIA

End of life decisions are difficult, and our staff of compassionate, caring professionals is available to help you through this process. We offer hospice and euthanasia services and will work with you to ensure your pet's comfort and dignity during their final days.  Deciding if your pet may need hospice care or euthanasia is a very personal and private decision, and our veterinarian is available to assist you in making this decision. Our hospice and humane euthanasia services are conducted with respect, compassion, and care. We have a full range of options available for cremation services.

IN HOUSE PHARMACY

We maintain a large inventory of veterinary pharmaceutical products and medications including flea, tick and heartworm prevention. Please call 48 hours prior to pick up for prescription refills.

INTERNAL MEDICINE

All areas of internal medicine are covered at BSJAH: Cardiology, Dermatology, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Neurology, Oncology, and Ophthalmology.

LABORATORY AND DIAGNOSTICS

As we continually strive to offer the highest quality medicine, we are proud to include in-house diagnostic laboratory services as a means of providing excellent care to our patients. For more specialized needs, additional laboratory diagnostics are also available through our outside reference laboratory.

MICROCHIPPING

A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice and is placed underneath your pet's skin between the shoulder blades. Microchip implantation takes only a few minutes and is very safe. Each microchip is unique and carries vital information about your pet, including your name, address, and contact information. When a microchip is implanted, the pet owner is given a registration form to complete. Registering the number on the microchip includes your pet in a national pet recovery database. We offer Home Again microchip services.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING AND PRESCRIPTION DIETS

From the very first day you bring a new pet home through the final days of its life, nutrition plays a critical role in your pet’s overall health and well-being. We are proud to offer Science Diet and Hills Prescription Diet for your pet’s nutritional needs. Specially formulated prescription diets can assist in the management of various medical conditions such as kidney disease, diabetes, arthritis, and heart disease. Also, we offer a wide variety of healthy and nutritional snacks for your pet’s enjoyment. Nutritional counseling is part of your pet’s yearly physical exam and is also available as needed.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Experiencing pain can affect the body’s physical function as well as have a detrimental effect on a patient’s well-being and state of mind. Pain management is among the primary considerations when we are treating a pet for any medical condition. Controlling your pet’s pain is key to your pet’s recovery.

PARASITE PREVENTION, FLEA AND TICK CONTROL

BSJAH’s in-house laboratory can diagnose most parasitic infections. Our pharmacy offers a wide range of medications necessary for parasite prevention and flea and tick control. These medications can be tailored to treat the needs of each individual pet.

PUPPY AND KITTEN CARE

For most puppies and kittens, pediatric care begins between the ages of 6 to 8 weeks. Your first puppy or kitten visit will include a full nose-to-tail physical examination, and discussion of a comprehensive pediatric plan for vaccinations and parasite control. We will also discuss nutrition and answer any questions you may have about care of a new pet.

RADIOLOGY AND ULTRASOUND

Radiology and ultrasound services are available to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of your pet’s illness and conditions. These services are safe and painless, and in most cases, non-invasive.

SENIOR CARE

Just as our health care needs change as we age, your pet’s health care needs also change. Nutritional needs, exercise habits, and many aspects of your pet’s daily routine change over the course of time. As in humans, some health issues that affect older pets can begin with very subtle changes and may often go unnoticed. Annual and semi-annual physical examinations are very important for senior pets. Most pets are considered seniors at age 7 and geriatric at age 10.

SURGERY

In our continuing efforts to offer comprehensive veterinary medical care, we are pleased to provide a wide range of surgical services for our patients. From routine surgical procedures, such as spaying, neutering, and declawing to more complex surgeries, we look forward to the opportunity to care for your pet’s surgical needs.

VACCINATIONS, WELLNESS EXAMS, PREVENTATIVE CARE

Vaccinations are part of comprehensive medical care designed to help insure your pet lives a long and healthy life. At BSJAH, vaccination recommendations are individually tailored for your pet’s breed, age, lifestyle, and underlying health conditions. Routine annual and semi-annual physical and dental examinations are key to the success of preventative healthcare. We at BSJAH welcome the opportunity to partner with you for successful management of your pet’s health needs through all stages of life: pediatric, adult, senior, and geriatric.
